Hello movie lovers, since the closing of the video store, I travelled far and wide to obtain new movies to tell you about.

I was very lucky to obtain a copy of Salmon Fishing in the Yemen and found it to be delightful in all aspects.

It has a stellar cast, Ewan McGregor, Emily Blunt and Kristin Scott Thomas, so I thought to myself, this is going to be good, and it was.

It is an unusual story of a wealthy sheik’s desire to transport Scottish salmon to the desert in Yemen – an implausible scheme if there ever was one!

McGregor plays a fisheries expert and suffers from Asperger syndrome, so he is rather unemotional and has very repetitive habits.

He did this part very well indeed and because I too am Scottish, it was lovely to hear his accent and to see the scenes of Bonnie Scotland.  Emily Blunt was wonderful as a sort of go between from the sheik to McGregor.  I saw Emily in the The Devil Wears Prada and she seems to fit each part she takes, very well.

Kristin Scott Thomas is the British Prime Minister’s press secretary so she sees a wonderful opportunity for press coverage and encourages this scheme to the hilt.

The movie is funny in parts, serious in others and the scenery is lovely.  I am unfamiliar with the man who played the sheik (Amr Waked) but he was great too.

Lasse Hallstrom, was the producer of this film, a man who gave us The Cider House Rules and Chocolat, all wonderful films as well.  It is based on the novel by Paul Torday and was released in 2011.

There is romance also, just enough for our interest, but I must admit to watching McGregor most of the time, as he did his part with such flair and conviction.

I have left out several aspects of this clever movie so that you can see it for yourself.  I got my copy at the Pawn Shop, there are many new titles there and this one jumped off the shelf, so glad it did.  Happy movie going all.
