Recently, Gallery 2 had the pleasure of having the residents of Boundary Lodge and Hardy View Lodge visit the new heritage exhibit.

The heritage gallery is a permanent installation that opened on Canada Day, which documents the history of the Grand Forks area with many original pictures.

The seniors enjoyed wandering back in time and had many stories to share with us.

Some of these stories included flagging down the train and catching a ride all over the Boundary area and even to the Okanagan to go fruit picking.

The seniors had a great time viewing the new art displayed in the galleries upstairs; currently featured is “Connections Materialized” by the Kootenay School of the Arts Faculty.

They also got the chance to visit the current Japanese photography exhibit, which they found very interesting.

One visitor from Boundary Lodge asked of the Japanese photography, “Why didn’t anyone ever smile in pictures?”

The residents also received a tea and coffee break, which allowed the summer students and seniors to share stories and get to know more about one another.

No doubt, the seniors loved the baked goods that were offered to them as well. For some of the visitors, it was their first time in the old courthouse building. For one resident of Hardy View Lodge, it was her first time in the old courtroom since she was 16 years old, and on the wrong side of the law.

The day was full of many stories and laughs and everyone enjoyed themselves. Kudos to both Boundary Lodge and Hardy View Lodge for bringing the seniors up to Gallery 2.

We were excited to have everyone tour the building, and we hope they will come back for another visit in the near future.
