Mrs. Yvonne Konar’s Grade 3/4 class from Perley Elementary School was treated to a day on the Kettle and Granby Rivers with experts Jenny Coleshill (project co-ordinator of the Granby Wilderness Society), Graham Watt (project co-ordinator for the Kettle River Watershed Management Plan), the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary, Roly Russell (PhD) and Christine Carlson (MSc) of the Sandhill Institute on Oct. 9.

They all gathered at the sites to discuss B.C. Rivers Day, environmental issues concerning rivers and watersheds, invertebrates and how we can help keep our rivers healthy and clean.

There was plenty of learning and a lot of fun had by all, using a kick net, bug boxes, binoculars and plain old rubber boots.

The group was also fortunate enough to meet a visiting entomologist.

“We are so lucky to have such skilled individuals in our community who are willing to spend a day with our students and help to bring awareness and interest to them,” said Konar.
