There will be mini chuckwagon races at this year’s fall fair

The Alberta Miniature Chuckwagon Racing Association will be making its way to this year’s fall fair.

The association, which was formed in 2003, has already expanded throughout Alberta and into British Columbia, increasing excitement and performance with each race.

With comments such as, “They are the cutest ever” and “I couldn’t take my eyes off them,” on the association’s website, spectators won’t be disappointed.

The wagons, pulled by the mini horses (minis), are sponsored by a variety of local businesses and organizations, whose names and logos are on each tarp.

The minis are said to think that they are thoroughbreds.

At the recent Canada Day celebrations, people were invited to put their signatures on one of the tarps.

A draw will be made soon and one child and one adult will present the tarp to the association during the fair.

A total of 10 wagon and 40 horses will compete on the 1/8-mile (201-metre) course at Dick Bartlett Park – each race will consist of two wagons with four minis each.

The drivers, who are very approachable, love to talk about their minis and wagons and encourage the public to get acquainted by asking questions and petting the horses.

The Grand Forks and District Fall Fair will take place between Saturday, Sept. 10 and Sunday Sept. 11 at the Grand Forks curling rink and Dick Bartlett Park.

The Sept. 7 issue of the Grand Forks Gazette will have a complete list of events and times.
