The Kootenay Doukhobor Historical Society (KDHS) held its annual general meeting at the Doukhobor Discovery Center in Castlegar on April 30. Members and guests attending were treated to a borshch luncheon outside on the grounds. JJ Verigin brought greetings from the wider Doukhobor community.

KDHS now has a new board of directors. The executive committee includes Dorothy Dergousoff (president/chair), Lisa Poznikoff (vice-president), Gwen Chernenkoff (secretary), Dorothy Dergousoff (acting treasurer). The directors are Walter Swetlishoff, Andy Ozeroff, Naida Vecchio, Sandra Stooshnoff, and Jamie McCaig.

The board wishes to thank Gordon Soukoreff, outgoing president, for his contribution of time and energy to the board and the museum operations. We wish him only the best in his new endeavors. Thank you, Gordon.

KDHS is extremely pleased to continue to have Ryan Dutchak as our director of museum and culture.

The society is bringing back to the museum grounds the tradition of hosting “Petrov Dien” Peter’s Day.

The BCC USCC Sunday Molenyia will be held at the museum grounds starting at 10 a.m., Sunday, June 25. Everyone is invited to come and participate in prayer for peace. The board also invites everyone to share in a potluck lunch with friends and family at noon. Let’s bring back our community! Everyone is welcome.

“Our success is dependent on the support of our community,” says Dergousoff. “Come visit and enjoy!”
