Hi Folks!

Summer is (almost) here, which means it’s time for our annual Summer Reading Club.

It’s a free children’s program at the library (ages six to 12), and it runs from July 9 to Aug. 23.

This year’s theme is “Up, Up and Away!” and will feature superheroes, space ships, birds, Star Wars and more.

We’ll have crafts, games, stories and activities, as well as one-to-one buddy reading time, for those who don’t want their reading skills to slow down over the summer break. If you’re interested in registering, drop by the library sometime before July 5. And hurry! Spaces are limited!

St-Jean Baptiste Day

Come listen to a wonderful, all-ages concert by Acadian duo Vazzy – they’ll be at the library on Saturday, June 22 at 2 p.m. This will be the third time they bring their traditional, toe-tapping dance tunes from Quebec, France and Acadia to our library. Special refreshments will be served.

Movie night

We’ll be showing the 1956 film A Town Like Alice (based on the Nevil Shute novel) on Thursday, June 27 at 5:45 p.m.

It’s about a young Englishwoman who survives a prisoner of war camp and seeks out the young Australian soldier who helped her, after which she goes to Australia and uses her inheritance to build up a small outback community.

The movie was only released on DVD this past February, and has been eagerly anticipated by many.

Stay tuned for more news on our NFB (National Film Board) Film Club, starting up in September.

Storytime

Join us for a multicultural storytime on Friday, June 28 at 10:30 a.m.

We’ll have special guests from the Storyteller’s Guild, songs, rhymes and international snacks!

Lego Challenge

We’re looking for donations of Lego for a new children’s program – so please dust off the old bin in the basement and bring it over; we promise it will be very well used.

Canada Day

The library will be closed on June 29 in observance of holiday Monday – Happy Canada Day!
