The Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Store is in a celebratory mood as it displays this year’s wedding-themed display.

From wedding gowns, tuxedos, accessories and even a small dog suit, everything the auxiliary had collected throughout the year will be out on display.

“When wedding dresses are donated, why just put it on a rack?” asked Sharon Kenessey, a volunteer and head display designer. “You can’t see them nicely, so we got the idea to make it like a wedding theme and display everything.”

Kenessey explained that everything wedding related is taken back to her home, washed and cleaned, and kept until there is enough to put out on display.

This particular display took Kenessey five hours to complete.

Willy Triveri, president of the Hospital Auxiliary, noted that the wedding-themed display is put together once or twice a year.

“We try to cater to every event, like graduation,” said Triveri. “Some of these dresses are suitable for graduation and they’re cheap.”

Wedding dresses and tuxedos are available throughout the year, but are only displayed once a year.

“A lot of the items have already been sold. Some of these dresses are gorgeous – for $150 you can’t go wrong, especially when you consider in retail, it would be much more expensive,” Kenessey pointed out.

Dresses that aren’t sold will be brought out again the following year, while other items are donated to other shops.

Triveri added, “We’re quite partial to allowing people to try on the dresses. We’re willing to come after hours if they want to come and try it on.”

All proceeds from the Thrift Store are used to buy equipment for Boundary Hospital.
