Health Equipment Loan Program to close in Grand Forks

The Canadian Red Cross Health Equipment Loan Program (HELP) in Grand Forks will be closing February 28, unless a new location can be found. The loss of the service’s current location is forcing the closure.

“The Red Cross is extremely grateful to BC Housing for the use of the old Hardy View Lodge for the past year and a half”, says Craig Burns, HELP Manager for the Red Cross, “Many of the loan service depots in the BC Southern Interior are completely volunteer run out of donated premises; the generosity and commitment of individuals and sponsors make the service possible.”

The Red Cross loans home use health equipment, by donation, to individuals who may not otherwise be able to afford the purchase or rental of items such as crutches, walkers, canes, and wheelchairs. The community-based service has been in British Columbia for more than 60 years and provided loans to more than 16,000 individuals in the BC Southern Interior last year alone.

A new location for the service is currently being sought and individuals or groups with space to donate are encouraged to contact the Red Cross. More information on the program can be found at www.redcross.ca/bcsoutherninterior
