Grand Forks library coming to the lake

The Grand Forks & District Public Library will be starting a new outreach service that will essentially see the library coming out to Christina Lake.

The board and staff of the Grand Forks & District Public Library are very excited to announce a new outreach service that will be effective as of Wednesday, July 6.

A partnership between the Grand Forks public library, Christina Lake Village and local Area C representative Grace McGregor has facilitated this new service.  The need for more outreach and visibility in the community became apparent as a result of the strategic plan conducted in 2010.

This one-year pilot project will see a staff member of the Grand Forks public library set up in the new coffee house at the village every Wednesday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The new Christina Lake Village is located behind the mural at 19 West Lake Drive.

We will be offering a browsing collection of children, young adult and adult fiction titles. Our library staff will also be equipped to help patrons sign up for a new card, search the library catalogue, pay fines, place holds on titles or request books from the Inter-Library Loan service.

We will also be able to deliver books to the village that have been previously reserved by telephone at 250-442-3944 or online at http://gflibrary.com/.

The books will then be available for pick up at the village.

As well, we will be accepting books to be returned to the library in Grand Forks. Patrons can drop their books off at any point during the week; they will then be boxed up and sent back to the Grand Forks library on Wednesday afternoons.

Do you have a reference question you have been desperate to ask? We can help you. We will be set up with a laptop computer and will have access to a number of online databases.

We can show you how to download audio and e-books and we can also teach you how to place your own holds on your account.

Storytime is also something we will be offering on a weekly basis and other programming is dependent on the community. What type of programs would you like to see? A workshop on e-books? A journaling class? The how-to’s of social media? This is a pilot project and we need to hear from you!

We look forward to seeing you at the lake.
