Dr. Robert (Robb) Sebastian was recently awarded the Rural Long Service Award.

Grand Forks physician Dr. Robert (Robb) Sebastian has been awarded with the Rural Long Service Award.

At the 20th annual Rural and Remote Medicine Course in Whistler, B.C. this year, Sebastian was recognized for “long and meritorious medical service to his community,” according to a release.

“We’ve been here 25 years and we’re very thankful,” Sebastian said. “It’s been very good for us and it’s a way to put something back on the table. We can go anywhere but we choose to live here.”

Society of Rural Physicians of Canada (SRPC) President Dr. Braam de Klerk feels that it is important to recognize physicians who have done good work in rural communities over the years and the Rural Long Service Award recognizes the long-standing work Sebastian has made to the community.

Recipients of the Rural Long Service Award must have worked in a rural, remote area of Canada for 20 years and they must be an SRPC for at least five years.
