Many of today’s cell phones are much more functional than a conventional phone.

On a hot summer day, GF Techman jumps into action.

Having been interrupted from his fabulous espresso shake by the shriek of a consumer in trouble at the nearby technology store, GF Techman comes to save the day.

Upon arriving at the store, he finds an elderly lady shaking her head and asking herself the same question over and over.

“Should I get a cell phone or a smartphone – Why do I need a ‘smart’ phone?”

GF Techman approaches, introduces himself and comforts the distraught lady.

“Ma’am this problem can be solved with a little information.  Many of today’s cell phones are much more functional than a conventional phone. They have cameras, music players, calendars and more, all designed to make our lives easier and more efficient. It is true that these smartphones do far more than what most users will ever use but this is the case with most technology. The question is more what will it do for me?

“Smartphones have the ability to act like a small, portable computer. You can send and receive email, texts, connect with social networking sites, create to-do lists and shopping lists.”

At this the ladies eyes lit up, “Shopping lists? To-do lists?”

GF Techman responds, “Yes there are many options for shopping lists and to-do lists to help keep you organized and efficient. They work together with the calendar program to allow you to schedule everything in a neat, easy and efficient manner. There is even a barcode scanner that you can use to help with creating the shopping list from your regular purchases.”

The lady, now very excited about the proposition of a device that will help her with her shopping and organization, asks the more difficult question: “Which one should I get?”

That question, we will have to save for the next time GF Techman visits.
