Friends of the Library seeking new members

Friends of the Library seeking new volunteer members.

Everyone needs friends and so do libraries.

For many years, a group of volunteers has played that role for the Grand Forks and District Public Library.

Simply and aptly named Friends of the Library, it has been a registered charity since 1984 and has been working to support the important contribution the library makes to the community.

The annual Christmas cookie sale and twice-yearly book sales are popular fundraising events organized by the Friends of the Library – it is the group’s efforts that have enabled the purchase of CD towers, preschool area tables and chairs, book carts, the spring-loaded book bin and as well, the Friends of the Library have made a significant contribution to the newly-furnished teen readers’ area.

As an advocating body, the Friends of the Library encourage donations, endowments and bequests to the library. It is a lovely way to thank and support a community institution that, as its mission statement says, “Open doors to a world of information, education and recreation.”

The Friends of the Library is happy to welcome new members. If you are interested in seeing what we are all about, please contact Dave Watts at 250-443-3292 or join us for our next meeting on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 10 a.m. and then every other month on the third Saturday of the month.
