Grand Forks Wildlife Association

This winter, the Grand Forks Wildlife Association (GFWA) constructed wood duck nesting boxes that will be placed around the Grand Forks area.

The association is also constructing mountain bluebird nesting boxes, for the small, threatened songbirds of the Boundary area.

The wood duck boxes provide critical nesting locations that will be used by not only wood ducks, but possibly by hooded mergansers, the threatened western screech owl, goldeneyes (waterfowl), and other cavity nesting species.

These boxes will hopefully be used through April and June, depending on the wildlife and their timetable.

The GFWA encourages people to observe from a distance, so as not to disturb nesting sites; binoculars would assist in getting a closer look. Submitted by Brad Siemens

North Fork Community Club

The North Fork Community Club held their Feb. 9 meeting at Verna Brown’s house.

The executive for 2011 remains the same, as everyone just loves their

position.

Cookbooks were our main topic and it is hoped that since the club is somewhere near the 50-year mark, the cookbooks will use that theme.

Again, all members past and present and all current and previous residents of the whole North Fork are asked to contribute recipes or a little tidbit of info.

It takes a lot of time getting it all laid out and ready for the printer, so please get your recipes to Marina Pavan, or any club member, no later than April 1.

This will probably be our last cookbook so everyone please make it

a special one.
