The Grand Forks Volunteer Firefighters Association will be holding the annual Ladder-a-thon fundraiser from Friday, July 29 until Saturday, July 30.

The charity event will begin at 3 p.m. at the parking lot of Overwaitea Foods (441 Central Ave.) and will see a firefighter climbing the ladder of a fire engine for 24 hours straight.

“The ladder is continuously occupied for 24 hours,” explains Gary Smith, a member of Grand Forks Fire and Rescue.

“As someone’s coming down the ladder the next one to go up has got their foot on the ladder so that (they’re ready to go).”

Smith says that smokies, hot dogs and pop will be for sale and people can make donations as well as firefighters will be “passing around the boot.”

Proceeds will benefit the volunteer firefighters association and will also be donated locally.
