Classic car lovers should head to Grand Forks’ City Park between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. this Sunday (Aug. 18) for an automobile show-and-shine event.
Organized by Canadian Classic Chevelles & Beaumonts club members and local residents Melodie Davidoff and Lawrence Morgan, the inaugural Park In the Park event will see somewhere between 150 and 200 cars – the event is open to all makes and models of cars and motorcycles.
There will also be 24 different trophy categories plus one for mayor’s choice.
Davidoff told the Gazette the Chevelles & Beaumonts club normally holds events on Vancouver Island but she and Morgan wondered why an event couldn’t be hosted in Grand Forks.
“We thought because we’re central like we are and we’ve got a lot of property where we are, we could have the group come here,” she said, adding that they tried an informal gathering the year previous and an attendee suggested they make it more of an event.
Davidoff said city councillor Gary Smith found out about the event and suggested having the car show at City Park – Coun. Smith said Market Avenue would be closed off for vendors from the Farmers' Market and businesses would be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on that day.
There will be the cars and vehicles, food vendors and even a ladies’ poker walk taking place, where cards are collected and the best hand winning prizes.
In addition, people wishing to have the value of their cars assessed can have that happen at the Park In The Park as Davidoff said Mike Hall of Collector Automobile Appraisals Ltd. from Kelowna will be at the event as well.
Whether people want to enter a car for the show-and-shine or just show up, it won’t cost a penny, as all are welcome.
“It’s not open to just the Chevelles Beaumonts Club, it’s open to anybody and everybody,” Davidoff explained.
