The Christina Lake Health-Care Auxiliary is organizing a Family Health Fair on Saturday, June 1 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the community hall at Christina Lake. Everyone is welcome to attend the day-long affair, which will feature over 20 booths bringing information about various health issues, blood pressure screening, handling emergencies, vision and hearing changes, yoga, diabetes, kidney disease, dental hygiene and much more.
Throughout the day there will also be special presentations:
10:30 a.m. – Dr. Lewis: Prostate health and colon cancer screening
11:15 a.m. – Sally Caisley, MEd: Osteoporosis
Noon – Molly Skerritt and Anne Marie Jourdin: Accessing community services
12:45 p.m. – Dr. Kalia, Nelson: Medical marijuana research and practice
2 p.m. – Sally Caisley: Improving your sleep
Children will love the Healthy Snacks for Kids booth and big fire truck. There will be door prizes and refreshments.
Admission is free, but the auxiliary welcomes any donations to support its volunteer efforts to improve health care for residents of the area.
Health-care auxiliaries throughout the region support local health facilities by volunteering, providing health and comfort items for patients and raising funds for equipment that may take years to purchase through the system, especially in small communities. All this and no administration fees. Their contributions are largely quiet but have a big impact on us all.
