CHECK IT OUT SEPT. 19 - Fall has fallen, why not read a book?

It’s the perfect time of year to be outdoors, digging out cozy sweaters and picking up a good book.

It’s official: Fall has arrived. It’s the perfect time of year to be outdoors, for one last brave swim in the lake (but not the rivers), for digging out cozy sweaters and picking up a good book. More on the sweaters in just a moment, and on the book.Computer helpComputers. We love them, we hate them. If you’re more in the latter group, you might be a good candidate to come to the library any Tuesday afternoon between 2-5 p.m. The Community Learning Place is a drop-in, one-to-one computer help program. We’re here to help with any questions you might have—whether you’re having trouble uploading photos from your digital camera, or getting confused by changes to your email inbox. This program is a partnership between the Grand Forks and District Public Library and the Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy (CBAL).Book clubThose of you who have read our September drop-in book club selection—Anita Diamant’s The Red Tent—are reminded that our monthly meetings will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at the Christina Lake Living Arts Centre at 1:30 p.m., and on Thursday, Sept. 26 in Grand Forks (at the library) at 7 p.m. Come prepared for a lively discussion!Adult knitting clubOkay, back to the sweaters. Whether you’re a master knitter or a beginner, you’re invited to come to our drop-in Adult Knitting Club. Come by any Saturday afternoon from 1:15-2:45 p.m. to sit and knit—we provide needles and wool, as well as tea and cookies. This is your chance to get an early start on the crafting season.  FridaysAhh, Fridays! No school, last day of the work week, etc. And also, occasionally, Fabulous Fridays at the library. The next one is coming up on Oct. 4, from 1-3 p.m. Here are five good reasons to come out: board games, snacks, puppets, crafts, XBox 360 Kinect. All ages welcome. Early closureThe library will be closing early on Oct. 3 (at 5 p.m.), for staff training. I know, nobody likes it when we close early—but you want us to be well-trained, don’t you?And last but not least, here’s something to help you find a good fall book: a list of... ...The Ten Most Popular Canadian Fiction/Mystery Books of 2013419 (Will Ferguson)Painted Girls (Cathy Marie Buchanan)The Beautiful Mystery (Louise Penny)Hustled to the Altar (Dani Collins)The Lion Seeker (Kenneth Bonert)A Door in the River (Inger Ash Wolfe)The Drowned Man (David Whellams)Mount Pleasant (Don Gillmor)Caught (Lisa Moore)Highball Exit (Phyllis Smallman)
