A lot of events are going on at the Grand Forks and District Public Library.

Hi Grand Folks!

Here’s what’s been going on at the library:

Five great uses for old newspapers

We’ve started putting our old newspapers in a basket by the book drop – feel free to help yourself anytime. What do you want old newspaper for, anyway? Here’re five things I can think of:

1. Fold a liner for your compost bin (instructions and in-person demos provided at the library).

2. Start a fire in your wood stove.

3. Make a hat (which is, strangely, very similar to No. 1).

4. Shred it and use it as bedding for your chickens.

5. Use it to clean windows and mirrors (seriously, try it, it’s amazing).

Cookies

A big thank-you to our Friends of the Library group for its successful cookie sale – it raised a record-breaking $801.

Santa Claus is coming …

... to storytime this Friday from 10:30 to 11 a.m., Santa will be at our regular storytime for an informal Q&A. Kids can ask any questions, including the ever-popular “Do naughty kids ever get presents?” and “Where are your reindeer?”

Last minute Christmas presents

Holy moly! You just remembered that your Aunt Gertrude is going to be driving in from Kelowna for Christmas, and you forgot to get her something. Well, don’t you worry, why not get her a library book? Just come on down to the library and hand pick a book that you think she’ll really like. Take it home, wrap it up, and attach a little card telling her why you chose this book, and what the due date is. When she’s done reading it, she can return it to her local library (as long as it’s in B.C.). Trust us – we’ve done this before, and it went wonderfully!
