Celebration of Today’s Entrepreneurs is the theme for Community Futures Boundary’s annual small business recognition and awards evening on Oct. 13.

The Government of Canada designated 2011 as “The Year of the Entrepreneur” and reports the following statistics around small to medium enterprises/entrepreneurs.
• 45 per cent of Canada’s gross domestic product (GDP) is generated by small and medium-sized businesses
• 28 per cent of Canada’s small and medium sized businesses are rural
• 86 per cent of Canada’s rural based businesses employ fewer than five people
• 77 per cent of Canada’s rural based businesses have been active for a decade or more
Small business creates new employment opportunities for entrepreneurs and others by generating income and economic output in the Boundary region.
Firmly rooted in the region since 1992, Community Futures Boundary has long recognized that entrepreneurs are the key to economic growth in the Boundary area. Community Futures Boundary provides service delivery to positively impact business development in the regional community through provision of programs designed to assist established businesses, new entrepreneurs, employers and employees with: business loans – micro loan programs; self-employment benefit program; employment assistance services; Boundary wage incentive program; and community economic development.
