A wonderful evening of celebration was held at the Grand Forks Art Gallery (Gallery 2) on Sept. 7, when the Champions for Literacy in the Boundary were honoured.
“Every year we put out a call to the community to nominate people and organizations that have made a difference with literacy in our community,” explained Sheila Dobie, community literacy co-ordinator with Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy (CBAL).
“Nominees can be a parent, volunteer, or caregiver dedicated to passing on the love of reading, or writing or even computers – any of the wide range of tools we use to communicate and move through the world. Organizations nominated are devoted to the task of making information and learning a life long path. The awards event is when we bring all the nominees together and honour them with a lovely evening of desserts and celebration.”
