Laura Carlson has just opened a new Pharmasave store with her husband Graeme at Christina Lake.

A brand new Pharmasave has opened its doors as of March 11 at Christina Lake, just below the medical clinic at 1746 Sandner Frontage Road.

“We opened the business because Dr. (David) Merry, has been wanting to put a pharmacy here for a long time,” said the Pharmasave owner, Laura Carlson.

Laura and her husband, Graeme, have owned the Pharmasave in Grand Forks since 1990 and have wanted to open up a new store at Christina Lake for some time now.

“We couldn’t do it until we had enough pharmacists; in order for the business to be open you need a pharmacist in the pharmacy,” she said. “It’s hard to get full-time pharmacists in small towns.”

The store is open from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., but a pharmacist is only in the store three days a week – Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

She said if the business warrants more traffic, that she will look at bringing in a pharmacist five days a week.

The Pharmasave has been open for a month now and Carlson says people have been receptive to the new store and business is steady.

They have opened just in time for the busy summer season at the lake, but she predicts that the winter seasons will be busy as well.

“We will be busier in the winter time because if it’s bad weather people won’t want to travel to town,” said the Pharmasave owner.

The store will have its grand opening May long weekend.
