There’s a fun winter contest running too!

Find the reindeer at the Boundary Museum for a chance to win! (Boundary Museum/Submitted)

The Boundary Museum and Interpretive Centre is still open during the winter months, though we will be closed for the Christmas holidays, Dec. 15 to Jan. 9.

Do something different this winter: come on up to our toasty little museum and find the reindeer. Hidden in plain view but hard to find is a sweet metal reindeer, and the adult who discovers it every day (one per day), will have their name entered into an end-of-year draw for a grand prize!

For the children, one child per day who discovers the reindeer may end up with a chocolate each for his or her entire class! If the child is here with parents, then the family gets a chocolate each.

The hunt for history goes on – come see the story of Phoenix, or the Mother tribe of the Sinixt, or the powerful story of the Doukhobors, or the little schoolroom, or the Naturalists display, as well walk the grounds if you don’t mind the cold.

This season we have Bronwen, our collection management coordinator, carefully investigating the existing artifact collection and preparing for two new exciting exhibits. One is an antique fire truck display in the new extension to the Black Hawk Livery building, and the other, directed by Joan, is the Sinixt/Doukhobor 2009 Reconciliation Exhibit, with “Living Memories” of past, present and future. Stay tuned, both opening up possibilities for our museum as an enticing place to visit.

This season we will be continuing with the ongoing care and work by the Board of Directors and volunteers, specifically Lee, Bob, and Sam. They have put in untold hours of work and direction for the museum and its grounds. From the small details to the larger decisions, from the picking up of trash to financial and other major work, they and the other members of the Board, have tirelessly worked on creating an environment of Historical accuracy and value.

Shannon Profili and Kalayna Tubrett, operations manager and summer student respectivly, co-ordinated the just-completed Halloween event and haunted house.

Alas this is the last year with Kalayna’s expertise, hard work and dedication, for she is moving onto a bright future at a university of her choosing. We will miss her talent, energy, and enthusiasm – and Halloween flair! The museum will be at a loss to replace her with another student, but we wish her well and all the best.

So please, take the chill off, come up the hill and enjoy. We’d love to see you!
