Boundary Habitat for Humanity receives two awards

Boundary Habitat for Humanity received two awards this year for their on-going community service.

Habitat for Humanity Boundary has received two awards this year for its ongoing commitment and dedication to the community.

“One was for the most homes built per capita in the country,” explained Director Rick Friesen. “The second was for the biggest build capacity increase. So we went from building one home every two or three years to building seven.”

Since 1996, Boundary Habitat for Humanity has built seven homes.

The current project is a seven-room multiplex located on 72nd Avenue in Grand Forks.

“We’re just about finished our landscaping and we’ll be starting to paint a room inside the building,” he said. “This (building) is going to take us to September to finish and we are tentatively planning for Saturday, Sept. 8 for our opening ceremony.”

Over the years, the City of Grand Forks has donated lots along 72 Avenue, while Greenwood has helped with the purchase of two lots. For each home that is built locally, it also helps fund the construction of a home overseas.
