The Imperial Motel is now under the ownership of Andrew and Trish Smith who purchased the motel last November, when they saw the opportunity it presented.
“We owned a motel before in Powell River but it was half the size,” explained Andrew. They found out about the motel through Syber Realty, which deals with the realty of business, hotels, motels, industrial and other facilities.
Since they purchased the motel, they have almost finished painting the exterior of the building, though the rooms have been completed.
“It’s been a lot of work, but business has been good this summer,” he added. “One of the things that we offer is free long distance, so that all these one-day travelers can call home for free.”
Trish pointed out that the kitchens have been completely redone with new cabinets and appliances.
“We’ve also replaced sinks and toilets, all the linens, shower curtains and lampshades,” she said. “We hope that by next spring we can get the deck completely redone as well and have picnic tables set up on top.”
Future projects also include redoing all the floors and adding more kitchens to a few more rooms. There are currently six rooms that have a kitchen installed.
Starting November, they will be offering continental breakfast.
