Ronald Barry Clifton

Feb 1944 - Feb 2015

It is with heavy hearts and loving memories we wish to share that Ron lost his battle to Pancreatic Cancer on Feb.28, 2015 at age 71. Ron was the son of Gordon and Jean Clifton and lived the majority of his life in Grand Forks … As a child, however; he lived in Calgary with his birth mother Joan (Wood) Hepburn. Ron was an amazingly positive man and had a zest for life that few could match. He was altruistic and always ready to lend a helping hand. He loved anything to do with motorized vehicles ranging from classic cars; RVs, boats, snowmobiles and trucks. He also loved his sports …hockey and golf being among his favourites. In the earlier years, Ron was actively involved with minor hockey as well as the Grand Forks Border Bruins as bus driver and GM. Later on, he spent much of his time at his beloved Christina Lake Golf Course where he was a long time member. In his retirement years, he loved travelling south in the winter … to Yuma and Mexico, where it didn’t take him long to make new friends with his disarming personality and sense of humour. Ron was a truck driver for the majority of his working life except for the 18 years when he became a business owner … some may remember him as “Ron the Muffler Man”. He was married for 48 years and is survived by his wife Linda Clifton, who was without a doubt the love of his life. He is also survived by his son and only child, Mark Clifton, his sister Roxy (Dave) Agar and his brother Michael Hepburn. He will be sadly missed by his nieces and nephews … Nadine Froese, Corey Froese, Lisa Agar, Marnie Birkeland, Lisa Burns and Jay Froese … his great nephews and nieces, his mother-in-law, Doll Hove … as well as his “special grandchildren” Kolby and Quinton McIver. He was an amazing husband, father, brother, uncle … and friend to many. He fought his disease right up to the last day, and although terribly sad, we are relieved that he is at peace after a 22-month battle. A gathering to remember Ron and to celebrate his life will be held at the Omega Banquet Room Saturday, March 14th, 2015 between 2:00pm & 5:00pm. Please stop by anytime during and share a memory. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Boundary Hospital or a charity of your choice. Grand Forks Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
