On Nov. 20, 2013, Glen lost his valiantly fought battle with esophageal cancer. Born & raised in Vancouver, Glen attended (along with his future wife, Valerie) Renfrew, Van. Tech, & Windermere High School, where he & Valerie were in the first graduating class in 1964. Three years later, he & Valerie were married in Burnaby, B.C. where two years after that, they welcomed their first son, Scott. In 1970, they bought their first house in North Delta where they would continue to reside for the next thirty-three years. During that time, their family grew to include two more sons, Jason & Wade and finally in 1985, their daughter Caralyn whom they adopted from Korea at age four. Glen started working for Canada Safeway in 1963 (at the age of 15), eventually becoming Produce Manager, and continued working there almost continuously until his retirement in Nov. 2003. Upon his retirement, he & Valerie moved to Grand Forks where they built their dream retirement home on the banks of the Kettle River. (“What’s not to like, it only has three traffic lights!”-Glen’s words). As a kid he played football & baseball and when his baseball playing days were done, he began coaching Bronco baseball at Falaise Park in Vancouver. (not many newlyweds leave the church through an arch of bats formed by the groom’s ball team!). As Glen’s family grew, he gave up coaching for awhile until his sons started playing. In the Callaghan family it was normal to spend part of every Mother’s Day at the ball park watching one of the boys playing. Glen also enjoyed golf, especially if he was playing a round with one of his boys. For many years, Glen & Valerie enjoyed their Fall fishing trips mainly up around Princeton. After retiring, Glen loved going to town “to pick up a few things” & shmooze with the various people he ran into. Glen you are going to be missed by many.

Predeceased by his parents, Glen is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Valerie, his sons, Scott, Jason, & Wade,(all in the Surrey, Delta area) and daughter Caralyn in Grand Forks. Also survived by two wonderful daughters-in law, Kori (Scott) & Krista (Wade), and three grandchildren – Darian (Jason), Cruz & Kate (Scott), as well as his only brother, Marty (Ellen), niece Errin & nephew Jeff.

Interment of his ashes & an Irish Wake (at Glen’s request) will take place in Langley, BC at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cancer Society or Boundary Hospice Assoc. would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Deborah Baker of Grand Forks Funeral Home, gffh@shaw.ca.
