In loving memory of Gino Leone D'Appolonia, born March 7, 1927, passed away peacefully January 7, 2011. Gino is predeceased by his beloved wife, Fanny Rose D'Appolonia; survived by his son Edward, his daughters Anita and Cyndi, and his youngest son Douglas; 16 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was born and raised in Coleman, Alberta, and he attended the University of Alberta to pursue his passion of medicine. Upon graduation he interned at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver. His long and rewarding career in family practice led him to Squamish, Port Alice and finally to Trail in 1966. The success he achieved as a medical doctor was evident as his children have been frequently approached by people who remember him as a talented doctor.

His passion for medicine was only challenged by the satisfaction he felt by serving many years with the 44th Field Engineer Squadron. He completed his service with the 44th Field Squadron as an Honorary Colonel, which gave him many years of retirement conversation. He enjoyed working with his hands and being in the outdoors as time allowed and participating whole heartedly in the church choir.

Public visitation for Dr. D’Appolonia will be held on Tuesday, January 11, 2010, from 4 p.m., until 5:30 p.m., at Personal Alternative Funeral Services “Carrberrys Chapel”. Father Don Wilson will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday January 12, 2011, at 2 p.m., at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Trail, B.C. Bill Clark of Personal Alternative Funeral Services “Carberry’s Chapel” is entrusted with the arrangements.

Donations to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital and Health Foundation, 1200 Hospital Bench Rd., Trail, BC in his name would be appreciated.
