Gertrude “Gert” Dekuysscher (nee Roe)
July 8, 1922 - April 30, 2017
Gert was born in Cranbrook and raised in Vancouver. She moved to Rossland where she met and married her loving husband Cyril, and raised their four children. Gert was extremely proud of her four generation legacy she has left behind. She worked for many years at Eaton’s in Trail, where she was fondly remembered.
Gert enjoyed singing, socializing, playing cards and gambling where her streak of luck seemed to always be with her. She and Cyril enjoyed their many travels. They spent many summers at Kootenay Bay and winters in Arizona. While living in Rossland, she was a proud, long-time member of both the CWL and Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
She was predeceased by her husband Cyril, son David and daughter Julie. Gert is lovingly remembered and missed by her daughters Celena and Pat (Joan), grandchildren Tammy, Tara (Doug), Jessica (Craig) and Colin (Katie), great- grandchildren Ciara, Kendra, Nate, Emily, Colby, Carson and Claire.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2396 Columbia Ave, Rossland, on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 10:30 am with Father Ben Buela, Celebrant. Alexandra Butts of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.
As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in Gert’s honour to the Catholic Women’s League of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, The Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary Branch #14 or to a charity of your choice.
