Elsie passed away after a short stay in the Palliative Care Unit of the Boundary Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur in 1992, and her daughter, June in 2006.

Surviving Elsie are daughters, Ivy (Karel) Michels and Linda (Gary) Dunnet. Missing their “Nanny” are grandchildren: Jennifer (Derek) Rodger, Kirsten Michels, Scott Dunnet, Heather (Doug) Ashley, Tracey Dunnet, CJ Coupland (Yvonne) and Heather Coupland. Elsie was particularly close to her great-grandchildren: Tyler, Zachary and Madelaine Coupland. Her other great-grandchildren are Tavyen Michels, Oliver Ashley, Riley Rodger and Evan Coupland.

Born at Fife, B.C., Elsie moved to Christina Lake after her marriage to Arthur in 1936. She resided there for most of her life taking an active part in the community as a long time volunteer for the Ladies and Hospital Auxiliaries. In 2004 she moved to Grand Forks and later to Abbeyfield.

Elsie’s greatest pleasures in life were her family and friends, her garden and playing card games. She was always ready for a game of cribbage. She lived a long and productive life and the family has many happy memories of spending time with her.

The family wishes to thank the staff and residents of Abbeyfield for their companionship, and the staff of Boundary Hospital for their care and compassion during the final days of her life.

The Grand Forks Funeral Home is in charge of cremation and Elsie wished her ashes spread at Fife where her life began.

A memorial service is to be held on August 16, 2010, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Christina Lake Community Hall.
