BETTY DIANA PALMER

Born Betty Diana Gray in London, England, on April 15, 1926, the second of three children. Betty emigrated to Canada at the end of the Second World War and settled in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She married on November 20, 1948 and, over time, became the mother of five children. In 1960, she moved with her family to the Lower Mainland of British Columbia. Following on from her training as a children’s nurse in England, Betty completed a course in practical nursing in 1967. After receiving her diploma, she worked for many years at the Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, B.C. In her later years, she resided in Nanaimo, B.C. before moving into residential care in the B.C. Interior.

Betty is predeceased by her elder sister, Yvonne; her husband, Frank; and her eldest daughter, Helen (husband Rick). She is survived by her brother, Michael; her children Christopher (wife Coby), Murray (wife Miriam) Anne-Louise (husband Paul) and John (wife Mireia); eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Betty passed away at Hardy View Lodge, Grand Forks, B.C. on March 9, 2017 in her 90th year. She is best remembered for her love of her grandparents, her fondness for dogs, her commitment to her faith and her strong will and determination.

Her family wish to thank the staff of Hardy View Lodge for their patience and perseverance as they cared for Betty during the last 6 years of her life.

The funeral service for Betty will be held at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Grand Forks, on Friday, March 17, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA.
