It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alex. He was born on February 8, 1990 at Grand Forks, B.C. He passed away suddenly surrounded by his family on February 20, 2011, at Grand Forks, at the age of 21.

Alex was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Granny and Granpere Bourrel. He is lovingly survived by his daughter, Aubrey and her mother, Bonny Phillips; his parents, Tracey Garvin and Brent Bourrel; his sister, Cianda; his maternal grandparents, Bev and Lawrie Garvin; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.

Alex loved people and cherished his family and friends. He had a fabulous sense of humour and a smile few will forget. He’d cross the street, at any age to say hello, and was generous with his warm embrace. He also loved fishing, swimming, scuba diving, music, baseball, skateboarding, camping, the exuberance of little kids and animals (especially cats).

A celebration of Alex’s life was held on February 26, 2011, at the Christian Center with a reception following at Studio B on 2nd Street.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Aubrey Bourrel-Phillips Trust Fund at the Grand Forks Credit Union, Box 2500, Grand Forks, BC, V0H-1H0, or to the Boundary Emergency and Transition Housing Shelter (BETHS), Box 1663, Grand Forks, BC, V0H-1H0.
