A Grand Forks man died in a single vehicle collision in Grand Forks at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 29.

A 2004 Ford F350 pickup was travelling south on North Fork Road (near Henderson Road) when it crossed into the incoming lane and left the roadway to the left.

Grand Forks RCMP, Fire and Rescue and Emergency Medical Services attended the accident and an initial investigation revealed the driver lost control due to the slushy road conditions.

While the driver of the vehicle suffered non life-threatening injuries and was taken to Boundary Hospital, the lone passenger was ejected from the vehicle and died as a result of his injuries – he was not wearing a seatbelt.

According to an RCMP news release, the deceased passenger was identified as Jacob Giesbrecht, 72, of Grand Forks.

Police would like to remind motorists to drive in relation to the changing winter road conditions and to wear their seatbelts.
