Grand Forks RCMP may be on to a suspect in the case of the Florence’s Optical and Jewellery robbery after a development in the case on Monday.
Late December, the downtown jewelry store was broken into and over $100,000 in jewelry and valuables were stolen. At the time, RCMP indicated the store was accessed from a hole cut in the neighbouring vacant building’s wall. Last month Grand Forks RCMP released a surveillance images taken from the store’s security camera, showing a masked person wearing a balaclava with a skull print, jeans, and a black leather jacket.
In an update released Monday, Grand Forks RCMP note that because of a tip from the public, they located the “clothing and tools” used by the suspect on March 30 on Miller Creek Forest Service Road.
“RCMP will process the items and if evidence exists, will send them away for further testing at a forensic laboratory,” reads the press release.
RCMP are urging anyone with information to contact Cst. Angie Wouters at 250-442-8288 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
