The show must go on, and it will.

Tonight as I sit watching a full rehearsal of Boundary Musical & Theatre Society’s upcoming Production of Beauty and the Beast, I am feeling so happy and grateful. I am thrilled with the way this cast has dug in deep and given so much of their time and energy to this show. I am so happy with the way the show is progressing, the acting is exceptional and the dance steps are improving every day. I know the show will be ready and wonderful on opening night.

I am also so touched by the heartfelt and tremendous spirit that this community (and others) has shown to our non-profit society due to our recent problems with break-ins and thefts of high-quality costuming and props from our storage unit. Many businesses, groups and individuals have stepped forward to help us in our time of need. Thank you all for the donations of money, costumes and props.

We are still in need of a few things, a pair of falconry gloves, a bow and quiver of arrows, a cross body leather satchel and a set of matching pails with handles. Thank you to the Gem Theatre, the Legion and to Stu from the Station Pub for your generous support of local theatre. Also, Thank you to everyone who has contributed donations to our still active Go Fund Me page, there is a direct link from our Boundary Musical & Theatre Society Facebook page if you wish to contribute. We have even received offers of costume loans from other theatrical groups in the Kootenay area. These thefts will continue to be an issue for us, as our entire wardrobe department was gutted which included costumes we had been collecting for other future productions. We fell this is a sad commentary on the present state of criminal activity in our town.

However, as is often the case, what started as a financial and emotional blow to our group has actually made us stronger and more determined.

Although it caused us a great deal more work and a lot of scrambling to replace items for our upcoming show, we have proven to ourselves and the community that we can withstand the blow. With the hard work and dedication of everyone involved with this musical and with the help of a supportive and giving community, we have weathered the storm.

Never before in the experience of this society have we so needed the uplifting of our community and had it so amply provided. Please support us further by coming out to see the show on March 1, 2, 8, 9, and 10 at 7 p.m. or on March 3, 4, or 11 at 2 p.m.

Tickets are available at gallery 2, online at Events.bmts.ca or at the door. This is a great show for people of all ages, a wonderful option for a family outing and an opportunity for everyone to experience the wide range of local talent that we have here in the Boundary area. Thank you again and see you all in March.
